What do the human resource managers and leaders of Portuguese companies think about the most critical soft skills in 2020?? Are the results the same as those published by the World Economic Forum’s “Future of Jobs”? It was from this point that Randstad questioned the participants of the XIV conference of Human Resources Portugal.
Randstad and the Human Resources Portugal recently publsihed what soft skills will be critical in the future, from a questionnaire made at the XIV Human Resources Portugal conference to human resources managers and business leaders.
The comparative was the World Economic Forum’s “Future of Jobs” report which listed, in order of relevance, the following competencies for 2020: complex problem solving, critical thinking, creativity, people management, teamwork , emotional intelligence, decision making, customer orientation, negotiation, and cognitive flexibility.
But in Portugal, the conference participants did not mention exactly the same competencies or assign the same order of importance. Emotional intelligence appears at the top as the most critical competence for 2020. It is followed by teamwork and people management.
As Human Resources Portugal points out “The biggest differences between the two questionnaires are in the skills that are in the top positions. Solving complex problems is devalued to eighth place in the Human Resources Conference questionnaire, to the detriment of the emotional intelligence that moves from sixth to first, for example.
If at the top of the table are many changes, the differences are smaller in the last places. Negotiation, decision making and cognitive flexibility are in the last four positions. ”
The good news is that Emotional Intelligence, being a very important skill in the organizational world, it’s also amenable to development. EQ-i2.0, the world’s most widely used Emotional Intelligence tool, is an excellent starting point as it provides a detailed reading of each person’s emotional profile.
