What is MBTI®?
The “Myers–Briggs Type Indicator” is a tool that allows a positive understanding of the differences between people, through the understanding of each personality type and the characteristics associated with it. Self knowledge is the first step in this process. It is critical to understand your own personality style in the work context: leadership style, learning style and preferred motivation, the difficulties lived, the obstacles’ resilience, etc. From this, starts a whole work process with suggestions towards the development of each collaborator, activating all their communication potential and creating new paradigms in approaching problem resolution.
The origin
The Myers – Briggs Type Indication (MBTI®) is an indicator of innate personal characteristics (preferences), that is based upon Carl Jung’s psychological types.
MBTI’s objective is to make Jung’s psychological types theory understandable and useful in people’s lives:
“Perception encompasses all forms of becoming aware of things, people, events, or ideas. Judgment involves all forms of arriving at conclusions about what was perceived. If people diverge systematically in what was perceived and the way they arrive at conclusions, then the most reasonable is they also diverge accordingly in their interests, reactions, values, motivations and skills.”
Several scientific studies prove the theory that we are not a “tabula rasa”, we have different personality traits and the environment, the contexts which surround us have a strong influence in building our identity, without fading the essence of what defines us as singular beings within a plurality.
